The RINOs Strike Back: Trump-Hating John Thune Named Senate Majority Leader
Thune was elected on a secret ballot as the majority of Senate Republicans were too cowardly to go on the record and demonstrate their fealty to an anti-Trumper.
Sen. John Thune of South Dakota will take over as Senate Majority Leader from the reviled Mitch McConnell, defeating fellow RINO Sen. John Cornyn of Texas and MAGA favorite Sen. Rick Scott of Florida in an intraparty election on Wednesday.
Thune was elected on a secret ballot as the majority of Senate Republicans were too cowardly to go on the record and demonstrate their fealty to an anti-Trumper. It is clear Thune will govern the Senate in the same manner as his predecessor. Thune has frequently demonstrated his severe disloyalty to President Trump on many occasions.
Thune publicly opposed Trump's nomination in 2024 and even refused to commit to supporting Trump if he became the presidential nominee for a third time.
"I'm hoping we have other options," Thune said after he was asked if he would support Trump were he the Republican presidential nominee in 2024, "and I think we have a robust primary process so, you know, that is a hypothetical, and I know everyone would say that is a cop out, you won't answer that question, but it truly is at this point very preliminary, and I guess I would tell you that I hope we have other options, and I believe we will have other options."
Thune has been an outspoken advocate of the unconstitutional federal Jan. 6 probe. He doubled down on his support for the Jan. 6 probe earlier this year even after widespread prosecutorial misconduct was exposed and feds were discovered as provocateurs stoking the violence that day.
"I think you have to let the justice system work in this country, and the evidence has been sufficient for courts and juries to determine that there ought to be consequences for people who were involved in the attack on the Capitol," Thune said three years after the Jan. 6 attacks.
Thune can be seen here posing next to Vice President Dick Cheney, describing him as an "old friend."
Both Thune and his leadership opponent Cornyn were exposed by Donald Trump Jr. along with McConnell for using procedural tricks, attempting to fool conservatives into supporting a Ukraine military bailout under the guise of securing the border.
"Mitch McConnell, John Thune & John Cornyn are trying to save their Swamp funding bill for Ukraine by adding fake 'border enforcement' to trick conservatives into supporting it," Donald Trump Jr. stated in an X post exposing Thune, Cornyn and McConnell.
Thune received a dismal 51 percent rating on the Liberty Score from Conservative Review and a 62 percent rating from the Heritage Foundation based on his legislative voting record. Meanwhile, Rick Scott received a much stronger 86 percent rating for his Liberty Score and an impressive 95 percent rating from Heritage Foundation.
But the Senate was not choosing leadership based on fidelity to conservative values. It is business as usual. The RINOs are thumbing their noses at Trump and the voters, defiantly showing that the swamp is still in charge. Thune can be expected to be thorn in the side of President Trump’s agenda as long as he is Senate leader.
Thune will continue the failed, self-sabotaging ways of McConnell. It was McConnell's mismanagement that squandered crucial Senate seats during this election cycle with tens of millions being spent on RINOs like Larry Hogan of Maryland and not a dime spent on pro-Trump stalwart Kari Lake, who is expected to lose her Senate race by a small margin following predictable ballot shenanigans in Arizona.
Even though President Trump delivered the much-ballyhooed red wave and put countless Republicans into power due to his campaign prowess, the establishment has learned nothing. They arrogantly attribute Trump’s success as their own, and they will work to undo Trump’s mandate out of malice, incompetence and arrogance. Their obsession with power and prestige is their only concern, and they will never come around.
The Thune debacle shows that MAGA forces cannot bargain with the Republican Establishment. They must be rooted out and eliminated similar to the far-left Democrats. An America First movement with the likes of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard and similar patriotic independents and Democrats is stronger than settling for corrupt Republican career politicians who may say the right talking points but fiendishly undermine national greatness behind closed doors.
Thune is out of tune.
Not good!
