Will the Uni-party’s ‘Kavanaugh Treatment’ Derail Pete Hegseth’s Department of Defense Nomination?

President Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Defense, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, is receiving the Kavanaugh treatment as he is pilloried from every angle with specious and unproven allegations.
Hegseth, an outsider to the Washington D.C. swamp whose nomination shocked establishment politicos, is being called a sex pervert, a drunk, an abuser, and virtually every other slur imaginable after living a life free of scandal and intrigue for his entire life up until this point.
These sort of smear campaigns are inevitable and will happen to everyone no matter how squeaky clean their reputation may be. This was the lesson that everyone on the Right learned definitively after the circus hearings with Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and his dubious accuser Christie Blasey Ford. Republican U.S. Senators nevertheless seem to be going along with the dog-and-pony show.
"They can't be trivialized. And I just want to know that he's redeemed… and going forward, he's going to be better," Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota said, apparently declaring Hegseth guilty until proven innocent.
“We’re just going to have a really frank and thorough conversation,” said Sen. Joni Ernst, an Iowa RINO who hopes to steal Hegseth's position at the DOD after joining in his railroading.
"I think some of these articles are very disturbing. He obviously has a chance to defend himself here, but some of this stuff is -- it's going to be difficult. Time will tell,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, as if he does not have a mountain of skeletons in his closet.
These Senators know that these are false smears being circulated by Hegseth by a media machine that has lied about everything repeatedly. These RINOs are jumping on board because they hate the MAGA agenda and feigning outrage about bogus claims is how they undermine MAGA without admitting it to their constituents. This demeaning process must end now with Hegseth or it threatens the integrity of Trump’s second administration.
It would be fair for legitimate questions to be posed by thoughtful Senators about Hegseth’s plan as DOD chair considering his background as an outsider. This is what a logical vetting process would look like in a sane country that was not plagued by corruption, but Republican Senators are not engaged in this process. Republicans who had no problem confirming communists like Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland are standing in the way of Trump’s picks because they do not confirm with the agenda of the Uni-party.
The Washington D.C. swamp wants more controllable hacks in the second Trump administration like Bill Barr, John Kelly, Mark Milley, Jim Mattis, Mark Esper and others. They want company men who serve the regime. The swamp wants insiders who will protect the system from Trump, rather than unleashing Trump to go after the corrupt system. The Senate nomination process has been warped from its natural and constitutional advise-and-consent role to a gatekeeping exercise to protect the special interests and elites who make out like bandits fleecing the American people and do not want their gravy train to be derailed.
The worst-case scenario would be after Gaetz drops out of contention as the Attorney General, and if the establishment is successful in derailing Hegseth, it will create a domino effect that will torpedo every anti-establishment Trump cabinet pick. Kash Patel will be out as FBI Director, Tulsi Gabbard will be out at National Intelligence, and RFK Jr. will be out as Health Secretary. This is the cascading effect that the political establishment is hoping for with their continued smear campaign.
Trump would be wise to consider recess appointments to get in all of his preferred choices into these key roles. With creatures of the swamp dominating the Senate, recess appointments may be the only way to keep his cabinet from being jeopardized. If Hegseth is gone, the political establishment will see the blood in the water, and it will be a feeding frenzy against all non-swamp appointment until the Trump administration is mired with the same backbiting that hampered the first administration.
Hegseth must show the same resolve as Kavanaugh as his life is torn apart by remorseless hyenas in the Democrat-controlled media and their craven enablers in the Republican Party. Hegseth’s confirmation would reaffirm the MAGA mandate that Trump was elected to fulfill. It would show there are limits to the power of the deep state to control the levers of power, and they will not be able to subvert Trump’s second administration from within. This is why Hegseth must continue fighting, and MAGA faithful must have his back to see his nomination through to ultimate success.
