With so much attention diverted from real events to the “Russian collusion delusion” by the vast majority of major media outlets, I think it is important to mention the many accomplishments that Donald Trump has achieved in such a short time.
In his first 100 days as president, Trump signed more legislation into law than any president since Harry Truman back in the late 1940’s and he has also enacted more executive orders than any previous president.
Trump 29 laws in his first 100 days, as compared to Obama’s 14, Bush’s 7 and Clinton’s 22. Trump’s 32 executive orders exceeded Obama’s 19, Bush’s 11 and Clinton’s 13.
Under Trump’s watch, the unemployment rate hit 3.9 percent in April 2018, the lowest rate measured in this century. Under Obama’s presidency the unemployment rate was more than double this.
It is not just national unemployment that has dipped to record lows, falling below 4 percent only a few times in U.S. history, but even more incredibly the unemployment rate among black Americans has fallen to 6.6 percent and for Latinos the rate fell to 4.8 percent, both now at their lowest levels in recorded history!
Trump’s historic Tax Cuts and Jobs Act delivered the biggest tax relief for small businesses in our history and reduced the tax burden on the middle class, while bringing the country’s high corporate rate down so it is more in line with countries that are home to companies against whom American companies must fiercely compete. Hands down, Donald Trump is proving to be America’s best economic prosperity president in at least a hundred years.
As for international achievements, President Trump convinced NATO members to honor their minimum financial commitments. He ramped up military strikes on ISIS targets from around 20 to about 500 or more airstrikes per week, resulting in the breaking of ISIS as a significant threat to peace and security across the middle east.
Trump convinced Japan and South Korea to increase defense spending, part of his unfolding effort to de-escalate and end the decades long Korean War truce in favor of peace and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. He is now close to accomplishing the near-miracle of bringing North and South Korea to a historic peace summit.
This is an unprecedented action that leaders of the involved countries credit to Trump and which could end up defusing one of the world’s most explosive hot spots. South Korean president Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have pledged to denuclearize the Korean peninsula and declare a formal end to the Korean war by year’s end. The Korean leaders are recommending Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize.
On his 100th day in office Trump signed into law and established the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy with the goal of stimulating a resurgence of American manufacturing, decreasing the trade deficit and working to promulgate policies to create jobs and boost the economy. As promised, Trump is also renegotiating trade agreements like NAFTA and he has moved towards slapping tariffs on imports from China and Canada.
Among Trump’s executive orders are his plans to give veterans better health care and to protect whistleblowers at the Department of Veteran Affairs. The VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act is the most significant reform bill in VA history, giving the VA leadership the power to fire bad employees for misconduct. In its first month as law more than 500 employees were fired for cause, beginning the long road of rebuilding our VA for veterans rather than bureaucrats.
What makes Trump’s accomplishments even more incredible is that he has done all of this in the face of the most severe, biased, unfounded accusations by Democrats and the media, intent on destroying his presidency by any means. All of this, to me, clearly shows that Donald Trump is, and will continue to be, a great American president.
